History...
Housed in the 1848 Kelly-Farrior House and situated in a National Register
Historic District, Cowan Museum is a special place. The museum features several
thousand rare and unusual artifacts highlighting early rural America. Among the
items is an extensive collection of wood-working tools, farm implements and long-forgotten
household utensils. Have you ever seen a twibil? A sugar nipper? An
alcohol fan? You will here. Treasures that you can touch, handle and
feel-history you can get your hands on.
On the grounds several outbuildings are displayed. A one-room log schoolhouse, a
furnished one-room log cabin, and a restored log tobacco barn all bring to life our rural
American heritage offering visitors of all ages an unforgettable cultural, historic and
hands-on experience rarely found today. |
